When exactly the new symbols for iPhones & Co. will be available is not yet known.
Update from October 31, 2018: iOS 12.1 with new Apple emojis
Yay! The new iOS 12.1 comes with more than 70 new emojis coming soon to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. The new emojis are available now with the iOS 12.1 developer and public beta previews and will be available in upcoming software updates for iOS, macOS and watchOS. We’re already full of anticipation and have discovered a whole new favorite that could outrank our unicorn – the alpaca emoji! Ok, Apple itself calls the fluffy white animal a llama, but hey … we’ll annex it for our hipster-alpaca thing right away. Sorry, dear llamas… Also brand new are sporty emojis such as skateboards or mountaineering shoes for outdoor fans. The Nazar amulet (don’t open your eyes!) and the Chinese moon cake, which makes our emojis a bit more international again. If his messages are too bland, you can now spice them up with a salt emoji – it’s available now – along with a sliced bagel (how often do you think we’ll use that?), leafy greens, mango, and the adorable cupcake.
We remember: Just in time for “World Emoji Day” in July 2018, Apple presented more than 70 new icons for the first time, which will be available from autumn 2018 with the “iOS 12” update for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. In February, Unicode had already announced 157 new symbols for this year and published example images. However, these deviate somewhat from the end result. The final Apple emojis – including the aforementioned alpaca, superheroes and superheroes, a lobster, a cupcake and lots of smileys – can be seen in the image gallery above.
Update June 6, 2018: 66 new emojis available
In early 2018, Emojipedia announced 157 new emojis. With the new update (Unicode 11.0) available since June 5, 2018, 66 of them have been unlocked. From now on, the cute symbols can be used by Apple, Samsung, Google, Microsoft & Co. Among other things, there is a llama, a kangaroo, superheroes, a cupcake, a bagel and even toilet paper. In the spirit of diversity, there are now also gray and red-haired people as well as bald and curly hair. The remaining 91 icons should be unlocked by the end of the year.
